Here's the update, guys! Sorry about its lateness. :'D

Further to this, I'm going to take Monday's update off - the Thursday update is going to be a double-pager to make up for it, though. I'm re-jigging some parts of the scenes to come so I need a bit of time to plan things. -v-;

Now, I need to bed. Good night! Have a happy start to your weekend, everyone, and thanks for reading!

P.S. Thanks to everyone who watched the stream! ;v;*

Hey guys, it's another late update tomorrow - sorry for the delay, I hope you can understand this may be a common occurrence until the end of November. :'D

Here the WIP shot, in case you haven't seen it already:

image

I started a second WIP shot thread in the supporters forum, so if you support SF on Patreon you can pop in there to see a different panel WIP. -v-

I'm... uh... around 40% done with the flats right now so this might take me some considerable time to finish. OTL

BUT IT'LL BE DONE TOMORROW!

Hey guys, sorry to say that I completely underestimated how long this update would take and I'm about to pass out even though I still have shades, effects and filters to do :'D

I'll sleep a few hours and wake up to finish it - sorry for the delay!!

Updated WIP shot - nearly there!

As a rock nerd who studied geology, I love the Defender even more O.O Although he isn't exactly dad of the year material lol. Is it sad this is probably the closest I think they've been in years?

And horrible thought, but...safety of the caster aside, can he make a big pile of rocks to squish the beast? >.>
Scia 16th Sep 2017, 3:08 AM edit delete reply
If the novel is anything to judge by, he could probably skewer it with an Earth Pike, or shake things up with an Earthquake. Though the latter would probably cause more collateral damage, so he might prefer the former.
Scia 20th Sep 2017, 6:32 AM edit delete reply
Oh wait... I forgot about the shield against elemental attacks. XD; He might pretty much be able to trap it, and maybe make stuff fall on it.
rufiangel 6th Oct 2017, 9:42 AM edit delete reply
rufiangel
@Scia: Lethiaces are pretty close to how the attacks work with their respective elements in The Lethian, you're correct. ^_^ Both Earth Pike and Earthquake are skills under Bradley's belt, though like you've noted, he wouldn't try it now because of the elemental reflect shield. Boo.
rufiangel 6th Oct 2017, 9:40 AM edit delete reply
rufiangel
@Proxy: You are absolutely right - this is the closest they've been in years, Briar is not used to this proximity XD;;; it is a little sad. ;v;*

As for the pile of rocks, it would bounce off the elemental reflect shield, unfortunately :'D that's why the Defender isn't trying to attack it with his Lethiace. -v-;

Btw I'm very happy you like the Defender for all his rockiness XDD

Thank you, Rufi *hugs* ...and also for streaming <3

Thank you for the warning =)

Seems like defender is having fun - and his son is afraid...

Laifen:
Impenetrable Wall
Stepping Stone

Edit: is he an earth or a rock lethian??? ^_^'

Scia 16th Sep 2017, 3:02 AM edit delete reply
I think it'd be Earth. There's a lot of overlap with Lethian abilities between the comic and the novel, and in the novel, Stone Shield is an Earth technique. (They use Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and then Light and Shadow.) Each element also seems to have its own "Pillar" technique, so Rock Pillar fits that pattern, even though it wasn't used in the novel (as far as I can tell - I didn't write notes on it, anyway).
rufiangel 6th Oct 2017, 9:43 AM edit delete reply
rufiangel
The Defender has an Earth Lethiace - there is no such thing as a Rock Lethian, for the record XD but there is something else that's similar...

Wido 16th Sep 2017, 3:10 AM edit delete reply
Not only his an earth lethian, he also knows "the truth", right? he's not using any weapon for casting his lethiace

Yet, the beast has elemental resistance, so I wan't to know what is the defender going to do after imprison it

Well, I would suggest letting Kylie freeze it - ice cube/popsickle technique... ;)

...but I fear the puppy will jump the (for the lil'puppy relative low) fence before defender is finished...

I fear not much...

...looks like it could easily jump the lil'fence...

...if it would think of that...

megados 17th Sep 2017, 6:56 AM edit delete reply
That's what I wonder; can it break the wall, and is it so focused looking down that it fails to look up?

*edit: Does it have it's own perspective, or is that determined by Speedcaster?
rufiangel 6th Oct 2017, 9:49 AM edit delete reply
rufiangel
@megados: Thank you for always being so patient with the updates! ;v;*

As for whether it has its own perspective or whether that's determined by Speedcaster, we have a resident expert in all things magic coming to explain how it works in a bit, hang on tight ;D

Time to put this behemoth down...ROCK HARD. XP

Definitely seems like someone you wouldn't want to mess with here.

Looks like Briar is realizing the errors of his ways as his father works on the behemoth problem there, breaking down over the various panels.

rufiangel
The Behemoth needs a good taking down indeed -v-*)9

Sir Bradley, even without his Lethiace, is definitely not someone to be trifled with -v-)/

As for Briar... he is indeed learning a certain lesson here. ;v;*

The stone fence makes sense. We've already seen that the beast reflects elemental magic so a stone pike attack on the creature would just bounce off. I wonder how the creature would respond to clerical white magic?

An excellent question! If you're talking about Holy Palm... that would hurt it. Yep. -v-)/ Not a whole lot, mind, but it wouldn't bounce!

Okay, I had to come back to this one after thinking a little about things... and the result is that I can only post the following. Sorry Rufi! I owe so many goldra here...

The Defender, he just can't seem to avoid walking a rocky road. Or eating Rocky Road. A man must rock what life gives him, after all! These puns may Marr your day, but Tuff it out. :)

Aw, Briar-child... :'( He seems to finally understand that his dad does actually care for him.
The dad in question looks almost bored in that last panel though. He's tired of all this nonsense xD

(that continuous "Eeeeeeeee" is still going on in the background, by the way)
rufiangel 6th Oct 2017, 9:55 AM edit delete reply
rufiangel
Bored is a good word XD I mean, if you're repeatedly casting two skills over and over, you're bound to get bored, right? lolol XD

(He's also just exceedingly calm XD)

(Also, that 'Eeeee' - please take a breath or ten in between, you miiight be 'eeee'-ing for a while yet :'D)

Weepy bby Briar aw ;3; ( and reading the alt text, honestly my first thought was "oh wait, moms exist, why did I assume Brad Dad was a single dad? *throws bouquet in the fire*)

In all seriousness, I love this page so much, Sir Bradley being all matter-of-fact and cool with that smirk and just launching shields and pillars systematically <3 How you make him so cool rufi why XDDD
Digi5 23rd Sep 2017, 11:35 AM edit delete reply
Digi5
About the alt text: I don't think it was directly said, but I have a suspicion that Briar's mom is dead ...or somewhere far away. First, I'll direct you back to page 465, where Briar is reflecting on the fact that his mom isn't around to be concerned for him.
...then to page 467, where it's revealed that Sir Bradley is interested in a wishing stone.

Now, of course, this is merely speculation, and the defender could be interested in a wishing stone for something else, but the vibe I got when reading those pages is that the mom is gone. :(
CiciEnixa 23rd Sep 2017, 12:58 PM edit delete reply
CiciEnixa
Ahh, I can see that, actually!

Though, looking at it with the more recent pages, I get the feeling that, dead or not, Briar is just more... I dunno if there's a word for it but basically he idolizes "cool badass fighters" just like his Dad, so not being taken seriously and getting as much love from Dad as he might get from Mom probably puts Mom lower in his "Pls Give Me Attention" list. Just my thoughts, Mom's life status is not very clear cut at the moment.
Digi5 25th Sep 2017, 8:07 PM edit delete reply
Digi5
I get what you're saying; I hadn't even thought of it like that! And that idea would work whether Mom is gone or not.
