Hey guys, hope you had a good weekend! :)

This page wraps up Briar's arc - I wanted to put a lot more into it but ended up lacking the screentime for it. Claressa, Briar's mother, was going to make an appearance... but I ended up keeping it clean and just between father and son.

A little backstory here, since I'll probably not get the chance to fully elaborate on this in-comic: Claressa is in fact alive, but is doing intensive relief work in Clandest. Briar stayed with his mother at first, given how Bradley was extremely busy, but because her work began to involve dealing with sicknesses, she worried for Briar's health. Bradley agreed that Briar staying in Jem Citadel made more sense at that point. To do so, however, he had to hire Archer.

And that's the long and short of it!

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed today's update! See you guys next week with the next one :D <3

Yay update.

Kylie and Bradley are both lethian knights, so... the answer to both would be "no" or he would've been there already, no?
Gilrandir 28th Aug 2018, 5:16 AM edit delete reply
Hypotheticallly, this could lead to a very interesting ethical dilemma ...

As I recal, Lethian candidates are taken from their families early, purged of memories that might offer conflicting loyalties, then educated in how to use their Lethian abilities.

This means that a Lethian parent, whose child had the aptitude, might not surrender their child to the order in order to keep the family together. As long as the child doesn't get the special training, no big deal.

However, we have already seen that Sir Bradley appears to be a bit of a maverick within the Order. In this case, it might be possible that Briar does have the aptitude -- in which case should Sir Bradley train him, or not?

@Gil: You are correct that Lethian candidates are taken from their families early and educated in how to use their Lethiaces from then on, but not sure about where purging their memories came from XD (not that it isn't an interesting idea though o.o)

This ethical dilemma is definitely something all parents of children who show signs of having a Lethiace face. No one wants to have to give up their child. However, due to the fact children in particular are not great at containing their emotions when push comes to shove, the risk of an LCF is too great and though parents will put in great efforts to hide their child's abilities sometimes, it will usually come out in the worst way (just property damage if they're lucky, but more often people get hurt - or worse, killed) and they will face heavy penalties for ignoring the obligation.

Zinala would say there must be a better way, but in Archaiea they've managed to keep Lethians from inadvertently causing great destruction so far with the Lethian Guild... so far... ;P

In Briar's case, Sir Bradley in particular would have been able to notice by now if he had a Lethiace. He's a bit old now for signs to not have shown at this point. XD; Though in the hypothetical situation you've presented, it would be a rather shocking development for Sir Bradley, that's for sure!

I think if you take out the Lethiace abilities, which Briar won't be able to learn anyway, Kylie and Sir Bradley pretty much have the same fighting style, except Sir Bradley is a lot more experienced at it...

... So, yeah, he would be teaching Briar to fight just like Knight-K

@DLK: Kylie and Bradley do share some techniques, but ultimately Bradley is more of a tank than Kylie is. XD; Because he has more experience, he happens to also have picked up more skills. :)

@A.Moose: Thank you for catching the updates <3

You might recall that actually, Briar was sparkly-eyed at Knight K even before she pulled out that ice sword (which just made her extra... cool B) hurr) - what Briar really likes about Knight K is her style and her flair :P

Nemi once highlighted Kylie's fighting style on this page many chapters ago~ different knights will favour different styles, and Kylie in particular actually has more emphasis on her non-Lethiace techniques compared to her Lethiace-based ones. It's what makes her fairly competent even without her Lethiace. :3

So by adopting her fighting style, it just means that Briar eventually hones in on accuracy moreso than speed, and learns powerful finishing blows in his arsenal of kinetic energy based techniques. Unlike his papa Bradley, who actually has more tank-based techniques under his hood (and as such lives up to his 'Defender' role skill-wise XD).

I legit went "aww <3", I love this page, rufi XD And of course Brad dad would want his son to be like him. You are very cool, too, Sir Bradley, but your son has already witnessed Kylie's badass ways, you cannot make him unsee it anymore XDDD

(Also hahaha thank you for addressing the Missing Mom situation)

Briar has ambition! Maybe when this story comes to a close, he could star in a spin-off.

Picture it: Kylie is the new leader of the Leviathan Knights, (or whatever peace keeping force, as I suspect the Leviathan Knights, as an organization will either be destroyed, or fall apart) and she orders Lyn an Brian around on missions, occasionally accompanying them, and teaching them bout being a knight n stuff

Briar will certainly grow to be someone capable of leading his own spin-off ^_^* fufu~

We'll see about those predictions ;)

Dawww this is cute ^^

Also, between Rik and Lac and now Briar, Kylie is starting to accumulate quite a group of "little brother types" who look up to her xD (plus... y'know... an actual little brother xD)

I'm really impressed with how Sir Bradley is dealing with this. forcing his son to be willingly and actively involved in his future rather than just becoming a dandy-wannabe!

Sir Bradley is certainly trying his best to ensure Briar feels more agency with that - he's particularly glad here to find out that Briar would really like nothing more than the opportunity :3
