Happy Monday! :) I hope you guys enjoyed the short side-story and the break with all the website updates. Now, though, it's time to get back into it! It's the start of Chapter Five! And we start with a flashback.
This is where the limitations of my art come into play. I had to just state flat out that this is a scene from fourteen years ago because it's hard to tell otherwise. That said, I tried my best. I'm sure as my art continues to improve (hopefully) I'll get better at this age malarkey.
As a side-note, just FYI (and so no one has to bother reading the ages on their character sheets and doing the maths): Seia is 17 in this flashback. Rince is 13. Kylie, who hasn't appeared yet, is 7.
P.S. If you guys haven't yet, check out From Dust to Ruination because Cici's work is awesome (Chapter 2 just started :D) and Tristan just stepped on my chalk. XD; (HA! You won't get that unless you go take a look! :D)
Ehehehe, yay! I'm excited that you're excited! XD;; <333 (I was also excited to begin with so that's a lot of excitement XD) It's a bit of a weighty chapter!
Aw not true, I could tell it was a flashback before I even read the text! I think the coloring really did it for me somehow.:D
Oh man I can't wait to see young Kylie!:D
Just to clarify (since I know it's hard to keep track) - this could not be a flashback of the time she destroyed her home, as she was 18 at the time it happened (she states how old she was here) and this flashback takes place 14 years ago. Kylie is currently 21, so this means she is 7 at the time of the flashback. :) FYI!
Yeah, I read that she was seven (you mentioned that up there somewhere) I just did not remember that she was eighteen when she destroyed her home... - thanks for the link.
Now I am curious (and waiting in suspense) as to what had happened to poor Kylie...
...so Kylie is the "little sister" to Seia, is she not?
No worries! :) I'm always happy to clarify things for readers. To me, I know SF down to the weird details, but for readers who see three pages a week it's barely going to stick quite the same way. XD;
Regarding Kylie and Seia, I'll let readers define for themselves their relationship. :)
She eats opa fruit, nuts and various kinds of poultry, and plays with whistling leaves, balls or sticks if you give her any. She is a nocturnal creature and will adopt your shoulder if you let her. Or your head. Or your pocket. It's up to you.
She will also be devilishly fast so if she messes up your room, you probably won't be able to catch her as she scampers away from your scolding. Also, personal belongings might disappear from time to time. You will probably eventually find them months later in a secret base she has established in a drawer somewhere in your house, where she hoards all the trinkets she finds.
I bear no responsibility for whatever trouble she may cause you with her klepto-tendencies. Have fun! :D
Wow, either that break went fast or it was shorter then I thought. Glad your back tho. :)
I don't think your as bad as you think; I could tell they were different from the start. The text is still helpful though to give the exact number of years. The only thing that could possibly help would be to show how they are shorter by placing an adult or recognizable object next to one of them. Otherwise I don't know what you could have done differently while keeping them recognizable. But then I'm no artist so what do I know. ;)
Glad to be back! :) Hopefully I'll manage to keep up as usual! The break was very good.
I did actually place an adult there. XD; The knight next to Seia in the third panel. Seia isn't that much shorter though because he is already 17 at this point (though he is still growing).
I'm still learning as well how to appropriately age characters. Mostly it's good to rely on shapes rather than lines to do it, like posture and facial musculature rather than wrinkles. It's a conundrum for artists like me who aren't all that detailed. But I'm happy to try and learn along the way. :)
Dang, that's a long stairway to possible fall down!
Only real nitpick I'd have with the architecture here is that the bridge in panel one seems awfully unsafe what with that practically non-existent railing.
You're right! XD; Well, they have a foot or so of stone to stop them from falling right off the edge too easily (*cough*DragonAgeInquisition*cough*) but I guess that's not quite a lot. Let's say that the bridge is not for the faint of heart for now LOL. XD; (Maybe they'll install railings some point over the 14 years between then and now...)
I can't wait to see what happens this chapter... but I'm nervous too!
Page looks AWEsome btw!!

Widdle Kylie is widdle. XD;
Their guild looks amazing, it even has an open bridge walkway thing and stained glass and everything! O-O
I'm also happy you like how the guild looks! :) I am no great shakes at architecture but I did try. Thankyewww~! X3
What had happened to Kylie? Why does she not leave her room? Did someone hurt her? or was it that time she destroyed her home?
Just to clarify (since I know it's hard to keep track) - this could not be a flashback of the time she destroyed her home, as she was 18 at the time it happened (she states how old she was here) and this flashback takes place 14 years ago. He/she looks sooo cuddly *cuddles him/her*
So, what do I need to know to take care of him/her? (and how do I know it is a him or a her?)
She eats opa fruit, nuts and various kinds of poultry, and plays with whistling leaves, balls or sticks if you give her any. She is a nocturnal creature and will adopt your shoulder if you let her. Or your head. Or your pocket. It's up to you.

...so, where do I get opa fruit?
*gives her plenty to play with*
... I'm joking! Joking! Please don't hurt me >_>
Can't waaaaait.

Guess I didn't know how tall the girl was...
But ya.
I still think you did well. :)
